A dire situation is unfolding at the Evergreen Whispering Pines mobile home park in Midland County, Michigan. Residents like Shana Bradford are facing an unprecedented challenge, having gone days, even weeks, without running water. This crisis has sparked concern and frustration among the community, with many reaching out for answers and support.
"We're desperate for water," Bradford shared with a sense of urgency. "It's been a struggle, especially with my work and my children's needs."
Bradford's home, like many others in the park, relies on melting icicles for their only source of water. This temporary solution has been in place for two weeks, causing significant inconvenience and hardship.
"I work in the kitchen, so hygiene is crucial. Traveling to my mom's place near Bullock Creek High School for showers has been a hassle and expensive," Bradford explained. "And with two growing boys, keeping them clean is a challenge."
Despite her efforts to reach out to management, Bradford hasn't received any resolution. "They're not taking responsibility," she said. "I had to call the United Way for help with water, just to flush our toilets and have something to drink."
Our team visited the property's office but found it deserted, adding to the sense of neglect. Other residents shared that management is shifting blame onto them, claiming they didn't insulate their water lines properly.
Bradford refutes this, showing us the heat tape and insulation under her home, keeping the interior at a comfortable 74 degrees. She also provided an email from the office manager of Water District #1 of Midland County, dated January 16th, which states that the water pressure issue is within the park's responsibility, as they failed to upgrade their lines when connecting to city water.
"Even a day without water is unacceptable, and we've far exceeded that," Bradford emphasized. "People are getting desperate."
We reached out to the owners of Evergreen Whispering Pines, Evergreen Equity GP LLC in Pittsburgh, for comment but are yet to receive a response. This ongoing water crisis highlights the importance of community support and the need for urgent action to address such critical infrastructure issues.
