In the heart of downtown Portland, a unique artistic endeavor is taking shape, captivating the city and its visitors alike. The secret studio buzzes with creativity as artists transform blank fiberglass canvases into life-sized crow sculptures, each with its own distinct personality. This ambitious project, titled 'Wildwood: Follow the Crows', is a collaborative effort between LAIKA, the Portland Metro Chamber, OHSU Doernbecher Children's Hospital, Downtown Portland Clean & Safe, and Visit Downtown. The goal is to bring a stop-motion film adaptation of Colin Meloy's novel to life, with the sculptures serving as a gallery, scavenger hunt, and civic celebration all in one. The film, 'Wildwood', is inspired by Meloy's book, which features illustrations by Carson Ellis, and the project aims to capture the essence of this enchanting world. The artists, selected from a pool of 214 designs, are putting their individual touches on the sculptures, resulting in a diverse range of interpretations. Sam Warford, Reuben Lancaster, and Lizzie Keenan are just a few of the talented individuals bringing their unique styles and ideas to the project.
