KVIFF's organizers have carefully crafted a two-pronged approach to their industry program, dubbed the Cinematic Focus and Screen Focus. This strategic move aims to address the evolving needs of audiovisual professionals in Central Europe. The festival will delve into crucial topics such as production values, the ethics of true crime storytelling, alternative distribution models, and innovative storytelling techniques.
Book-to-Screen: Unlocking Literary Adaptations
One of the festival's most intriguing initiatives is the Book-to-Screen program, inspired by the successful Books at Berlinale. In collaboration with various literary and cultural institutions, KVIFF will present up to 10 book titles from Central and Eastern Europe with potential for film or series adaptations. KVIFF Promises, formerly known as KVIFF Eastern Promises, has traditionally introduced projects to industry professionals. However, this year, the program is dropping its regional focus and embracing a global scope. By expanding its reach, KVIFF Promises aims to become an even more significant meeting point for international co-productions and discoveries.
Global Media Makers Residency: Exploring Financing Strategies
In collaboration with the U.S. embassies and Film Independent, KVIFF Industry Days will host the Global Media Makers Residency. This intensive program will bring together 14-20 independent producers from the Czech Republic and Slovakia to explore new approaches to private financing. By drawing inspiration from the U.S. film industry and engaging with international experts, participants will gain valuable insights into financing structures and international collaboration.
Casting Directors Take Center Stage
On July 9, the International Casting Directors Association (ICDA) will present its prestigious Semiramis Award for Excellence in Casting at KVIFF. ICDA will also host a series of panels and masterclasses, bringing together several dozen international casting directors to discuss the craft and impact of casting in contemporary filmmaking.
